Maternity Boudoir Session

Pregnancy is such a special time in a woman’s life. The female body is incredibly powerful. Between choosing baby furniture, baby names, pediatricians, etc–pregnancy can be overwhelming at times. Choosing a photographer for your boudoir maternity session should be easy, low-stress, and above all–FUN!

Hey y’all! This is Terrin. This blog post is all about my personal boudoir experience, and I am SO EXCITED to share it with you!

I originally had planned to do a boudoir session in September 2020 about six months after giving birth to my twins. I wanted to feel good about myself again and wanted my body to feel like mine again. Unfortunately, the timing didn’t work out and I had to put my session on hold until I could get things worked out. Fast forward TWO YEARS to September 2022. I reached out to Bumby about finally getting into the studio for a shoot, but instead of a regular boudoir shoot–I wanted to do a maternity boudoir shoot. With my due date quickly approaching, we had to get planning quickly!

BESIDES THE OBVIOUS…HOW IS MATERNITY BOUDOIR DIFFERENT FROM REGULAR BOUDOIR?

I’m gonna be honest. I have never done a regular boudoir session, so I truthfully cannot tell you exactly what the differences are. What I do know is that maternity boudoir brings a much softer side to boudoir.

The goal is to capture the beauty and glow of a mama who is bringing life into this world. One thing that’s different about maternity boudoir is that there is much less lingerie involved. Bumby recommended that I get cute lace bralette and panty sets, maternity gowns, and cute sweaters or cardigans. These few items really made me feel sexy with very little effort. Another difference is the posing. Obviously at 8-9 months pregnant I could not bend and twist and arch the way I might for a regular boudoir session. Bumby goes over the different options for poses during the posing 101 crash course she gives to each client before getting started.

This was the best decision I could have made. I look back on my other two pregnancies and wish that I’d have had the guts to do something like this then. I felt incredibly beautiful during my shoot. I was literally “glowing” the entire time. If you are even thinking about doing something like this–GO FOR IT! You will not be disappointed.

When should I schedule a session?

Personally, I would advise that you schedule once you hit your third trimester. Once you hit that milestone your belly begins to develop more of a nice round shape that is absolutely perfect for maternity photos.

I did this photoshoot two weeks before my little girl made her entrance into the world. I was at the point in my pregnancy where I was always uncomfortable, sore, and struggling to catch my breath. Bumby helped me around those feelings, the soreness, and everything else. My photos were everything I could have hoped for and more.
